As a coffee drinker, you may find it hard to wake up and get moving without a cup of coffee or two. For most coffee drinkers, it makes up a staple part of the everyday morning routine due to its stimulating effects.

Although it’s easy to buy coffee on the way to work every morning, if you want that first, delicious cup in your own home before setting foot out of the door, then you’ll need a decent coffee machine in your kitchen to make it happen. Hence, we take a look at the Mr Coffee Cafe Barista espresso and cappuccino maker to see what it has to offer.

Mr Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso and Cappuccino Maker

Established in 1970, the Mr Coffee brand is famous with coffee lovers across America. They are committed to bringing a rich brewing experience into the home. This barista-style espresso and cappuccino maker is one of the newest and fastest models in their lineup for lovers of all types of coffee including lattes, cappuccinos, and espressos.

Who Is This Product For?

This product will appeal to anyone who enjoys barista-style coffee and wants the convenience of having the ability to make it themselves, in the comfort of their own home.

Measuring 11.22 x 8.86 x 12.6 inches, it would not be suitable for someone with a small kitchen as the machine is quite large and takes up a fair amount of worktop space.

What’s Included?

When you receive your Mr Coffee Cafe Barista machine, you will find many pieces that you will need to brew your own coffee. The machine itself has a removable water tank that fits on the back, a removable drip tray that sits on the bottom of the machine to collect any spills, and a reservoir that you can fill with milk and place in the front of the machine.

Also in the box, you will find two differently sized filters for the choice of single or double shot drinks, a porta-filter that clips into place on the front of the machine and a measuring scoop to help you get your coffee from the bag into the filter.

You will also find a user manual to help you get to know and operate your machine as well as a one-year warranty card.

Overview of Features

Upon unboxing and trying the Mr Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso and Cappuccino maker, here are the things we found:

  • Functionality

This machine is completely automatic, so no guesswork is involved when heating and frothing your milk. The removable milk tank slots in next to your cup and will froth to the perfect temperature while your coffee is brewing.

The milk then dispenses itself into your cup, giving you a perfect latte with no fuss. Extra milk can be frothed at the touch of a button, and if you still have some left in the tank when you are finished, then the milk tank can be removed and placed in the fridge until you next use it.

The machine also features an electric 15 bar pump which gives plenty of pressure and heat to extract the best and boldest flavors from your coffee.

  • Ease of Use

We love the fact that this machine is effortless to operate. After placing your coffee into the filter and securing it to the front of the machine, fill up your milk reservoir if needed. Then with a click of a button, your coffee will be ready in around 30 seconds.

The easy, one-touch system involves three buttons which are all clearly labeled on the front of the machine. By clicking one of the buttons, either once or twice (for small and large coffees), you can make your coffee selection quickly and easily.

We also like the fact that it comes with a choice of single and double shot filters. This means you don’t have to run the machine twice for two espresso shots. There is also a handy pull-out drip tray that increases the base height of the machine, which is useful if you plan to drink an espresso and have a small cup.

  • Recipe Book and Manual

Mr Coffee provides a recipe book to make all sorts of coffee, as well as milkshakes and cocktails. We feel this is a nice touch that offers great inspiration to see how you can get the most out of your machine.

Similarly, the user manual offers instructions on how to clean the machine, and it’s great that this is so easy as well. You can use white vinegar and water to run through the whole system (just one click of a button also), and the milk reservoir and filters can be washed up easily.

It should be noted that the porta-filter is not dishwasher safe. Luckily it’s a small part of the machine and can be washed easily though.

  • Size

The only negative thing we can find for the Mr Coffee Cafe Barista machine is its size. Unfortunately, it does take up a fair amount of worktop space. If you don’t have a relatively large kitchen, then it’s unlikely that you’ll have space for this in your home.

If you do, once the reservoir is filled, you don’t need to access the top of the machine any further (like machines that use coffee pods for example). This means it could potentially sit in a workspace underneath a cupboard.

  • Warranty

This product also comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. This is great since if something is faulty in the machine, then you can get it repaired or replaced by the company free of charge within a year from the purchase. In case this machine is no longer available, they promise to replace it with a similar model equal to or higher in value than this one.

How to Get the Most Out of It

Before using your new Mr Coffee Cafe Barista machine, you have to prime it which involves running water through the entire system. Fill up both the water and milk tanks with water, and put it in the machine along with the porta-filter.

Once the machine is powered on and you have a large empty cup ready to catch the water from the dispenser, press the espresso button once or twice (for a single or double shot) and wait for the water to run through. Repeat this process twice, and then press the cappuccino button once or twice (for small or large). Once the water has stopped running through, repeat this process once more.

Your machine is now ready for you to add all of the ingredients and grab your first cup of barista-style coffee.

Buying A Coffee Machine

While the range of instant coffee on the market has improved remarkably over the years, it still and probably never will beat a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Investing in a machine that makes coffee house quality drinks will save you a lot of money in the long term but how do you choose the right one?

You want the coffee to be correctly brewed, and you also want to make sure that you get a machine that’s easy to use, as well as easy to clean. Otherwise, you may not find yourself using it as often as you meant to.

Alternative On The Market

If you don’t have the space for the Mr Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso and Cappuccino Maker in your kitchen but still want excellent tasting coffee, then you could consider the 4-Cup Steam Espresso Machine, also made by Mr. Coffee.

Measuring 8 x 6.5 x 10.5 inches, this machine is two or three inches smaller than the other machine. As a result, much less countertop space is needed to accommodate it.

It uses steam to heat and brew the coffee and can make up to four shots of coffee at one time which is great if you have guests round. There is a milk frother on the side as well so that you can still make great drinks! You do have to froth the milk yourself and guess how long to froth for though.

That said, this machine is also a bit cheaper than the other option. However, each cup of coffee requires more work and practice to get everything just right. Nevertheless, if price and/or kitchen space are an issue for you, then the Mr Coffee 4-Cup Steam Espresso Maker is a fantastic coffee machine that, when used correctly, will provide you that great coffee house quality brew in your own home.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, the Mr Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso and Cappuccino Maker is a far superior machine and would make a fantastic and enviable addition to any coffee lover’s home.

We love the fact that it does everything itself. All you have to do is add the water, coffee, and milk and then hit a button! You can prepare your breakfast while your coffee is being made by the machine. Come back a few minutes later, and it’ll have cooled slightly, ready for you to drink it!

Although this machine is quite expensive, you’ll easily save that much money back within just a few months as you won’t need to buy a coffee on the way to work each morning.
